Talent Acquisition – Insights from MBA-HR Interviews

Recently, I conducted interviews with MBA-HR students from a reputed university of Bharat with the objective of encouraging employment directly from colleges. We had more than 25 students, and a majority of them showed strong interest in working within the Talent Acquisition segment.

Understanding Candidate Interests

In interviews, we evaluate skills, confidence, attitude, and mindset to see if they align with the required position. However, I personally like to explore the main area of interest of the candidate and try to give roles that align with their passion. This is not always possible, but we must try because there is a vast difference between “have to do” and “love to do”. When you do what you love, productivity and engagement naturally increase.

Beyond Just Recruitment Calls

Many perceive recruitment as simply calling candidates and arranging interviews. But this is only a small part of the larger process. The critical aspect lies in Candidate Selection, which requires analysing a person’s attitude, behaviour, confidence, and overall personality to ensure they are a good fit for the role. Hiring the right people for the right place, at the right time, and within the right budget is crucial because the hiring budget can either be an investment or a cost. A wrong hire often becomes an unnecessary cost for the organisation.

HR – The Face of the Company

HR represents the organisation to the market and potential employees. The behaviour and attitude of HR professionals create a perception about the company culture. Today, employees seek more than just a financial hike – they value work culture, transparent communication, personal growth, new responsibilities, and involvement in decision-making. It’s no longer about hiring smart people and telling them what to do; it’s about hiring smarter people than you, valuing their suggestions, and building a progressive culture.

“Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” – as said by our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, applies to organisations too. If we grow together, growth will be sustainable.
